How to make rasta pasta?
Rasta Pasta is a kind of pasta dish which has multicolored spaghetti noodles. It’s also known as multi-colored pasta and rainbow pasta. The name Rasta Pasta comes from the colors of the spaghetti noodles resembling the flags of Jamaica (red, yellow and green) and Italy (red, white and green). It tastes like regular pasta and it can be served as a side dish or main course.
The Rasta pasta is made by boiling regular-colored (white, blue and brown) spaghetti noodles and then mixing them with ingredients such as red sauce, vegetables, cheese, etc. The most famous recipes come from Jamaica and Italy. Read more: How many calories are in a bowl of pasta?
How to make rasta pasta?
The most common ingredients for Rasta Pasta are spaghetti noodles, cheese (usually cheddar) and tomato sauce. But you can also add meat, fish, vegetables, pasta spices and many other things to make this dish tastier.
To make rasta pasta you’d need:
1. Pasta sauce of your choice (marinara is best). Here I am using 2 colors of pasta – white marinara for the background and orange marinara for the colorizing. The red pasta is made from white marinara pasta with a drop of red food coloring. The yellow pasta is made from white marinara pasta with a drop of yellow food coloring. The green pasta is made from orange marinara with a drop of green food color. I used 7 drops for 3 colors to create brighter, more visible colors.
2. Pasta of your choice – no need to cook it. Just make sure you have a good amount left over, as you will be mixing it with sauce later. I am using elbow macaroni for the rasta pasta and spaghetti for the marinara background.
3. Here I am mixing the pasta with bright red marinara sauce. I used the white marinara spaghetti for this step so you can see what’s going on. I started by making little balls of yellow, green and red pastas, kinda like these guys here.
Then I place them in a plastic bag, mixed them all up, cut the bag’s tip and used it to pipe the pasta onto a glass plate so I can have an easy cleanup later.
I made 2 simple clay pots for my rasta pasta dish. One is the main pot with a big plant growing out of it, the other is a smaller pot with a lil’ plant.
I wrapped yellow clay around my finger to make this cute flower for my main pot. I think it turned out quite nicely.
I covered both pots with yogurt, placed them on the plate (yes, I mixed the spaghetti and pastas), added chopped parsley to make it look like grass.
And here is my final Rasta Pasta dish! Hope you find this tutorial useful.
